Nordic Foodtech VC has secured an additional €30 million commitment from the European Investment Fund (EIF) for its second fund. This capital brings the vehicle closer to its target size of €80 million. The EIF investment is backed by the InvestEU equity product, which focuses on climate and environmental solutions, as well as EIB Risk Capital Resources.
The fund, which reached a first closing of €40 million in April 2025, intends to support approximately 30 companies. The firm targets pre-seed and seed-stage ventures, particularly research spin-outs from universities and centers in Northern Europe and the Baltic states. Initial investments are capped at €2 million, with additional reserves allocated for follow-on funding.
Founded in 2019, the Helsinki and Copenhagen-based firm manages two funds. Its first vehicle, launched in 2020, totaled €42 million and backed 18 companies. The current strategy emphasizes deep-tech solutions for food security, nutrition, and agriculture, including aquaculture and biosolutions. The firm aims to bridge the gap between laboratory research and commercial market entry.
The European food-tech sector continues to see significant financing activity in 2026. Recent notable rounds include €38.5 million for Oceanloop, €15 million for Agriodor, and €9.7 million for Rainbow Crops. Other investments include €8 million for Foodforecast, €6.3 million for Computomics, and €4.8 million for Avenue Biosciences.
