NextEra Energy reported a backlog of 35.1 GW in renewable energy and storage projects as of the second quarter of 2026. This portfolio is driven by demand from hyperscale computing clients, including Google and Meta, which accounted for 30% of recent additions. The company added 3.6 GW of new capacity in the second quarter of 2026, marking its second-largest quarterly increase.

The company launched a data center hub initiative with a base target of 15 GW of new generation capacity by 2035, with an upside potential exceeding 30 GW. Management is currently discussing 30 potential hub locations and aims to increase this pipeline to 40 by the end of 2026. CEO John Ketchum noted that clients are increasingly requesting multi-gigawatt capacities delivered on accelerated timelines.

Projections through 2032 include up to 41.5 GW of solar, 43 GW of battery storage, and 4 to 8 GW of natural gas generation. The company is also exploring nuclear energy opportunities. Separately, the Florida Power and Light division is evaluating over 20 GW in large-load power projects to meet growing energy requirements.
