Newell Brands has integrated internal audit into its artificial intelligence implementation strategy. According to Keri Tracy, vice president and chief audit executive, the audit department participates in every major AI project to ensure proper governance and accountability.

The company adjusts the pace of AI deployment based on risk levels. For instance, customer order-status agents are implemented more rapidly than fixed-asset-accounting agents, which require stricter financial controls.

Before applying AI, the company utilizes lean and Six Sigma methodologies to optimize business processes. This approach ensures that workflows are refined before technology is layered on top.

Internal audit also serves as a bridge between business teams and technology specialists. Tracy emphasizes that successful transformation requires effective change management and employee involvement to prevent project failure.
