NetApp is shifting its data access control strategy from binary permissions to behavior-based policies. This change aims to address risks associated with autonomous AI agents that operate at machine speed and may perform unintended actions with enterprise data.

The company introduced Novus, a storage architecture designed for AI factories and neocloud environments. Additionally, NetApp updated its AI Data Engine with a policy engine that identifies and flags unusual data usage patterns to improve cyber resilience.

NetApp expanded its security ecosystem through new integrations. Its autonomous ransomware protection service now connects with Commvault Systems, Microsoft Sentinel, and Cisco Splunk to share indicators of compromise and streamline recovery workflows.

The AI Data Engine is compatible with existing NetApp systems. To encourage adoption, the company announced a free six-month trial offer for customers during the NetApp INSIGHT event.
