NASA Earth Observatory has launched its October 2026 satellite image challenge. The project invites participants to identify a specific geographic location depicted in a provided satellite photograph.
To participate, users must submit their answers through a designated online form by selecting the Puzzler Answer category. Participants are encouraged to provide details such as the name of the satellite and instrument used, the spectral bands applied, or specific geological and historical observations.
The organization will publish the correct answer on its website approximately one week after the challenge begins. The reveal will include a link to a detailed story from the Earth Observatory Image of the Day series.
While the challenge offers no monetary rewards or space travel, the organizers will publicly recognize the first person to provide the correct location. They may also feature other submissions that contain particularly insightful or detailed analysis.
