Elon Musk has announced a recruitment drive for Terafab, a large-scale semiconductor manufacturing project located in Grimes County, Texas. The facility aims to produce chips capable of delivering over 1 TW of AI computing power annually. The infrastructure will span more than 9 million square meters.
The production output of the plant is projected to reach a value exceeding $1.15 trillion per year. This figure is based on comparisons to the nominal GDP of countries in the global top 20, specifically referencing Switzerland's economic output as of 2026.
The factory will focus on supplying components for Optimus humanoid robots, Cybercab autonomous taxis, and SpaceX space data centers. The project has already commenced with an initial research facility near Gigafactory Texas, backed by an initial investment of $16.8 billion.
Terafab will utilize vertical integration to consolidate logic chip design, memory production, packaging, and testing into a single system. This strategy is intended to accelerate the transition from design to mass production, with a goal of developing approximately 10 new chips annually.
