Elon Musk announced on X that he plans to distribute one SpaceX share to every child in America next year. The proposal covers approximately 70 million children under the age of 18. Based on the current TradingView valuation of $146.03 per share, the total value of the pledge reaches roughly $10.2 billion.
The initiative faces significant logistical and regulatory hurdles due to the nature of private equity. Unlike public stocks, private shares are subject to strict transfer restrictions and require specific company record-keeping. Recipients would need to comply with eligibility rules, and the process may require approval from financial regulators.
Practical challenges include how minors would hold such assets and the potential tax implications for the recipients. SpaceX currently operates as a private company, relying on revenue from reusable rocket technology, the Starlink satellite network, and contracts with NASA and commercial clients.
While the announcement has generated widespread discussion, Musk has not yet provided specific details regarding the mechanics of the distribution. Further information on the implementation of the plan is expected in the coming months.
