Elon Musk predicts that artificial intelligence will increase US economic growth from approximately 2% to 4% next year. This forecast significantly exceeds the projections from the Federal Reserve, which estimated growth at 2.4% for 2027 in a report released on September 16.
Current economic data shows a 1.5% annual GDP growth rate in the second quarter, following a 2.1% increase in the first quarter. Federal officials maintain a long-term growth potential estimate of 2.0%. Achieving 4% growth would represent the fastest expansion since the late 1990s.
While AI investment currently focuses on chips, data centers, and power plants, regulatory scrutiny is increasing. California Governor Gavin Newsom signed an executive order requiring AI firms to host independent auditors and initiating the development of an AI kill switch mechanism.
The California executive order mandates that an expert group propose new safety regulations within two months. Simultaneously, Nobel laureate Geoffrey Hinton informed US lawmakers that the window for addressing AI risks may be limited to approximately one year.
