MSCI has introduced 14 new AI Value Chain Indexes to provide granular exposure to the artificial intelligence sector. The new system, launched in late August 2026, includes 10 component indexes, 3 layer-specific indexes, and one overarching index that maps the entire supply chain.

The layer-specific indexes focus on Physical AI Infrastructure, Digital AI Infrastructure, and AI Applications. This taxonomy aims to address investor demand for precise exposure, as traditional sector classifications struggle to capture the cross-industry nature of modern technology trends.

In partnership with the Singapore Exchange, announced in July 2026, MSCI is launching up to 100 futures and options contracts linked to these indexes. These derivatives allow institutional investors to manage risks and hedge specific AI-related positions more effectively.

The collaboration with the Singapore Exchange is strategically significant due to the concentration of AI supply chain operations in Asia, including chip fabrication and data center construction. The move targets Asian institutional investors closer to these physical assets.
