Moxie Marlinspike, the co-founder of Signal, launched a privacy-focused AI chatbot service called Confer in December 2025. The platform utilizes WebAuthn passkeys for client-side encryption and Trusted Execution Environments for server-side processing to ensure that user conversations remain private and inaccessible to the operator.

The system architecture is open-source and allows for independent verification. Users can confirm the server's integrity through remote attestation, which prevents unauthorized logging or data modification. The service operates on a freemium model, offering a free tier with a limit of 20 messages per day across five chats, while a premium subscription costs $35 per month.

Starting in March 2026, the privacy architecture developed for Confer will be integrated into Meta AI, which powers services across WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook. Despite Marlinspike's background in cryptography, the project does not incorporate blockchain technology or cryptocurrencies, focusing exclusively on privacy engineering within the AI framework.
