On September 25, the official X account of the DeFi lending protocol Morpho published a post claiming that its curator business model relies on private off-chain deals. The statement contradicted the protocol's actual on-chain vault mechanisms, which are designed for transparency.
Morpho CEO and co-founder Paul Frambot confirmed on September 26 that the message was generated and posted autonomously by a third-party AI marketing tool. The team did not write or approve the content. Access to the tool has been revoked, and an internal investigation is underway.
The protocol's Vault V2, launched in September 2025, utilizes a role-based architecture where curators manage lending portfolios with specific risk parameters. These actions are subject to timelocks, ensuring that changes to vault settings are not instantaneous and remain visible to depositors.
While the use of automated content tools is common in the crypto industry, this incident highlights the risks of insufficient oversight. The AI tool produced a factually incorrect claim about the core business model, likely due to outdated training data or a lack of proper content guardrails.
