Morgan Stanley has established a dedicated digital asset lab to evaluate products built on blockchain technology. The facility provides a secure and segregated environment for testing decentralized finance applications, stablecoins, and tokenized assets.

The bank's research team is currently exploring various use cases, including tokenized deposits, central bank digital currencies, and tokenized money market funds. This initiative is led by Megan Brewer, the head of firmwide market innovation and labs.

The institution has been expanding its crypto-related services for several years. In April, the bank launched the Morgan Stanley Bitcoin Trust, which currently manages over $871 million in assets. This marked the first instance of a major bank debuting a bitcoin exchange-traded fund.

The bank's history in the sector includes offering bitcoin exposure to wealthy clients through third-party funds starting in 2021. CEO Ted Pick has previously confirmed that the firm is collaborating with regulators to ensure the safe delivery of digital asset products.
