The experiment involved a Galax GeForce RTX 5090D HOF OC LAB XOC graphics card. Modders removed the original dual 16-pin power connectors and replaced them with three 8-pin connectors soldered directly to the PCB power regulators. The sense pins were rewired to bypass power restrictions, and the card was cooled using a liquid cooling system.

During testing, the GPU power draw reached 900W with three 8-pin cables, while clock speeds peaked at 3,400 MHz. The card pulled over 120A at its maximum load. The team performed these modifications exclusively at the hardware level without applying any BIOS or software tweaks.

Additional tests showed that the card maintained a clock speed of 3,200 MHz with two cables and 3,100 MHz with a single 8-pin cable. The experiment highlights the potential for manufacturers to reconsider 8-pin connectors for high-end graphics cards as an alternative to the 16-pin standard.
