Microsoft is expanding the rollout of a search experience in Windows 11 that excludes Bing integration. Users can now disable web search suggestions and Microsoft Store recommendations through the Settings menu under Privacy and Security.
By adjusting these settings, the Start menu search interface shifts focus to local files, applications, folders, and system configurations. This change removes Bing trends, daily trivia, quizzes, and MSN content from the search home screen, replacing them with a list of recent local search history.
The updated search functionality improves the speed of matching local content and enhances fault tolerance for typos. For instance, the system can correctly identify Outlook even when keywords like Otl or Putlook are entered. If no local match is found, the system displays a no-results message instead of redirecting to a web search.
