Microsoft is introducing an automated spell-check feature for the new Outlook client. Starting in October 2026, users will be able to manually enable a function that prompts for spelling corrections immediately before an email is sent. The feature will not be enabled by default to avoid excessive notifications and potential false positives from the Microsoft Editor.
The classic version of Outlook will not receive the automated spell-check update. Microsoft plans to limit future updates for the classic client to security patches and specific Copilot enhancements. One such addition is the User Initiated Insights feature, which allows users to manually trigger Copilot to explain selected text based on email context.
Internal testing for the Copilot feature began in May 2026, with a full rollout scheduled for October 2026. To facilitate the transition from the classic client, Microsoft is also developing a new theme for the modern Outlook interface that mimics the look and feel of the traditional Win32 version.
