Microsoft has introduced Project Zenith, a specialized Windows configuration designed for high-performance computers used by software developers. These systems are optimized for development tasks and come with a pre-configured set of essential tools.

The hardware requirements for Project Zenith devices include at least 64 GB of unified memory with a bandwidth of no less than 250 GB/s. These specifications allow developers to run AI models with more than 30 billion parameters locally, reducing reliance on cloud token limits.

AMD showcased the first Project Zenith device at IFA 2026, which is a mini PC based on the Ryzen AI Halo processor. Microsoft plans to release additional machines with different processors in the coming months.

The systems come pre-installed with Visual Studio Code, GitHub Copilot, PowerToys, WinAppCLI, and Windows Dev Skills. The interface is optimized for developers, with hidden files and extensions visible by default, long path support enabled, and distracting notifications and Start menu tips disabled.
