Microsoft released the KB5124008 security update for Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2 on September 8. The update caused issues with USB headsets, Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) connections, and Linux folder access within WSL. A subsequent out-of-band patch, KB5129195, was released on September 14 to address some of these malfunctions.
The company officially acknowledged three primary bugs: RDP connection instability, Hyper-V shared folder access failures, and USB Audio Class 1.0 device errors. While the KB5129195 patch resolved RDP and shared folder issues, the USB audio problems, characterized by a Code 10 error in Device Manager, remain unresolved as of the latest reports.
The update package also included the August KB5120998 patch and addressed 974 vulnerabilities across Microsoft products, including 723 in Windows. These issues affected not only Windows 11 but also Windows 10 and server versions dating back to Windows Server 2012, suggesting a conflict within shared system code rather than new features.
Additional reports indicate potential instability with Radeon graphics drivers and File Explorer crashes in corporate environments, though these remain unconfirmed by official sources. Microsoft has released six out-of-band updates for Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2 this year, citing an increase in vulnerability discovery aided by artificial intelligence.
