Microsoft released Windows App SDK 2.5 Experimental on September 29, introducing new native UI components for WinUI 3. The update adds TableView and Chart controls, which aim to enhance data visualization and management capabilities for Windows application developers.
The new TableView control supports features such as sorting, filtering, editing, and virtualization. It is designed for data-intensive interfaces, including file lists, order records, and business reports. The component also allows for grouping and column width adjustments.
The Chart control enables developers to integrate visual data representations like line and bar charts directly into native applications. This tool is intended for use in financial reporting, monitoring dashboards, and statistical analysis software.
The update also addresses a memory leak issue within WinUI. According to Microsoft, the fix resolves memory growth problems that occurred when applications repeatedly created visual state storyboards or continuously parsed static and theme resources.
Chris Anderson, a member of the Windows UI team, stated that the company is currently prioritizing performance, core functionality, and quality improvements for the WinUI framework.
