The latest version of the optional Microsoft Bing Wallpaper application for Windows 11 introduces a new behavior. When users left-click on their desktop background, the application automatically launches the default web browser to open the Bing website.

According to reports, this action can be triggered once every 24 hours. The behavior persists even if the user changes their default browser to Google Chrome. Previously, in 2025, Microsoft included a toggle in the application settings labeled Desktop click opens Bing, which allowed users to disable this feature.

In the most recent 2026 version of the software, the option to disable this desktop click behavior appears to be missing. Furthermore, the application displays pop-up notifications prompting users to set Bing as the default search engine across their installed browsers.

During testing, the application attempted to modify browser settings after a user clicked the Enable Now button. However, Google Chrome successfully blocked the attempt to install the associated extension, allowing the user to retain their existing search engine preferences.
