The US electronics retailer Micro Center has implemented strict purchase limits for the flagship GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card. Customers are now restricted to buying only one unit of this model every 30 days. To complete a purchase, buyers must present a valid government-issued photo ID.
These rules apply to all RTX 5090 variants, regardless of the manufacturer. The policy covers both in-store transactions and online orders with in-store pickup. In the latter case, the person who placed the order must be the one to collect it, providing identification to verify their identity upon arrival.
Micro Center has explicitly prohibited the purchase of these cards for resale purposes. The retailer reserves the right to cancel any order or refuse a sale if it suspects the buyer intends to resell the hardware. These measures aim to combat scalping, which has become prevalent due to the price gap.
Despite the high demand from both gamers and AI professionals, who utilize the card's 32 GB of GDDR7 memory, the RTX 5090 remains in stock at Micro Center locations. The company introduced these restrictions to manage the significant disparity between the recommended retail price and the actual market value.
