MetaMask has introduced a suite of security features designed to protect users from fraudulent activities. The update includes warnings for lookalike wallet addresses, potential investment or romance scams, and transfers to first-time recipients. These alerts are now available across both the mobile application and the browser extension.

A new feature called Added Protection automatically reverts transactions that do not match their initial previews. This tool is currently available on the browser extension, with mobile support scheduled for a future release. Additionally, users now have access to a priority support channel if they remain uncertain about a transaction after receiving a warning.

The wallet utilizes AI-driven threat detection in partnership with Blockaid. This system employs large language models and classification models to analyze social feeds, websites, and on-chain bytecode in real time. The goal is to shift from static warnings to responsive, contextual alerts that help users identify phishing and malicious behavior.

These security updates arrive as regulators intensify efforts against crypto-related fraud. In July, U.S. authorities seized over $25 million in assets linked to investment and romance schemes. Furthermore, the Secret Service recently froze $52.8 million in cryptocurrency associated with the Telegram marketplace Xinbi Guarantee.

The rollout coincides with preparations for the planned separation of Consensys’ consumer and institutional business units, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
