Meta's Muse AI assistant reached 5 million downloads in the U.S. within 22 days of its September 8 launch. This growth rate surpassed competitors, as ChatGPT took 56 days, Grok 103 days, and Claude 492 days to hit the same milestone. Muse currently holds the top position on the U.S. Apple App Store charts.

The application operates on Muse Spark models and functions as an autonomous agent capable of browsing websites, sending emails, and booking travel. It runs within a secure virtual machine in Meta's cloud. The company offers a free tier alongside subscription plans priced at $20 and $100 per month for advanced usage.

Meta utilized its internal advertising network to promote Muse, dedicating up to half of its daily house-ad impressions to the app by late September. Additional marketing efforts included paid placements on platforms such as Reddit, TikTok, and YouTube. Analysts at Truist estimate that Muse could generate $28.5 billion in incremental revenue by 2030.

The platform has encountered security and operational hurdles, including a vulnerability classified as SEV-2 and instances where the agent shared sensitive user data. Additionally, Amazon has blocked Muse from its website, citing unauthorized automated access. Meanwhile, OpenAI has introduced a competing autonomous agent named Dots.
