Meta's AI assistant, Muse, has gained millions of users who link it to bank accounts, messaging apps, and health data. Research by Karan Joshi revealed that the system creates individual profiles for every contact in a user's life, updating these records hourly.
The AI collects information on family, friends, and colleagues to provide relationship advice or personalized suggestions. Profiles include facts, shared history, relationship status, and follow-up tasks. The system is instructed to use only available evidence rather than fabricating details.
Muse operates within dedicated virtual machines for each user, ensuring data isolation. Users can clear memory or revoke access to external services. Meta requires user confirmation for actions like payments or emails and maintains audit logs of the agent's activities.
Meta spokesperson Daniel Roberts stated that the assistant uses public content and user-shared data to provide context for tasks. Experts note that while such memory features are common, Muse is distinct in its specific focus on mapping and documenting interpersonal relationships.
