Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced significant investments in artificial intelligence to compete with OpenAI and Anthropic. The company aims to accelerate the development of future AI generations.
As of October 12, 2026, Meta released its Muse Wonder model family. According to the company, these models outperform OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra and Anthropic’s Claude Opus 5.5/Fable 5.1 in technical tests.
The new models power the Muse agent application, which became the most downloaded app in US stores. Meta is adopting a strategy that combines open and closed models for both consumer and enterprise sectors.
Meta’s capital expenditure for 2026 is projected between $130 billion and $145 billion, with over $100 billion allocated to AI infrastructure. In 2025, the company acquired a 49% stake in Scale AI for $14.3 billion.
Alexandr Wang, co-founder of Scale AI, joined Meta as chief AI officer to lead the Superintelligence Labs. In September 2026, Zuckerberg and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang rejected a proposal to slow down AI development.
