Maserati is partnering with Huawei and JAC Motors to develop two new electric vehicles: a mid-to-large-sized SUV and a large GT model. The collaboration aims to revitalize the brand following a significant decline in global shipments, which fell below 8,000 units in 2025. This figure represents an 80% drop from the 2017 peak and the lowest volume in over ten years.
The financial situation for the automaker remains difficult, with an adjusted operating loss of €198 million and a profit margin of -27.3% reported. Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa stated the need for industrial partnerships to secure the company's future. The new vehicles will integrate Huawei's intelligent technology and leverage JAC's manufacturing capabilities based in Hefei, China.
Under a dual-brand strategy, the cars will be sold as Maextro in China and under the Maserati badge internationally. The production will follow a Semi Knocked Down model: JAC will manufacture vehicle frames in China, which will then be shipped to Italy for final assembly, interior installation, and chassis calibration. Initial target markets include the Middle East, Italy, France, and Germany.
