Maserati has finalized plans to develop two new electric vehicles in collaboration with Huawei, specifically a mid-to-large SUV and a large GT model. Internal discussions currently favor launching the electric GT model first to reinforce the brand's sporty identity, while the SUV is intended to complement the existing Grecale Folgore lineup.
The partnership involves a division of labor where Huawei provides the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance platform, including smart cockpit, Qiankun ADS, and electric drive technologies. JAC Motors will handle vehicle engineering and manufacturing at its Maextro super factory, while Maserati focuses on design and international sales channels.
The project adopts a dual-brand strategy. In China, the vehicles will be sold under the Maextro brand, while international markets will retain the Maserati logo. Initial export plans target the Middle East, Italy, France, and Germany, utilizing a semi-knocked-down assembly approach to maintain luxury standards.
Under the proposed strategy, vehicle bodies will be produced at the Hefei plant in China, with final luxury interior assembly and calibration taking place at Maserati's facilities in Italy. This model aims to optimize costs while utilizing production capacity at the Cassino and Modena plants.
