Marvell has introduced the second generation of its Structera X series, featuring the 3406 and 3506 CXL memory expansion controllers. These new chips are designed to support CXL 3.2 and PCIe Gen 6 standards on the upstream side.

The controllers offer significant memory capacity, with the 3406 model supporting 9TB across 18 DDR4 RDIMMs, while the 3506 supports 6TB via 12 DDR5 RDIMMs. Both models are the first in the industry to provide six memory channels.

A key feature of the new series is the ability to share a memory pool across up to four host systems. The controllers also deliver a fivefold increase in LZ4 compression throughput, reaching 250GB/s, which effectively doubles or triples memory capacity.

The Structera X series includes enterprise-grade RAS features and PQC security protocols. Marvell expects to begin sampling the 3406 and 3506 controllers in the first quarter of 2027.
