Latvian Mobile Telephone (LMT) Group and consultancy firm Novaspace have signed a partnership agreement to develop a 5G and 6G satellite communications hub in Latvia. The deal was formalized on September 22, 2026, during the Industry Space Days event at the European Space Agency’s ESTEC facility in the Netherlands.
The initiative aims to integrate Latvia into the European space innovation ecosystem. The hub will focus on creating next-generation satellite technologies for commercial use, critical infrastructure, and security. It is designed to attract international funding, talent, and collaborative research projects to the Baltic region.
The project is part of the EU-funded FIERCE Ecosystem Building Programme. Novaspace will provide strategic expertise to help LMT define a unique value proposition for the hub, ensuring it complements rather than replicates existing European initiatives. The goal is to link terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks.
LMT is already working with the European Space Agency and satellite operator Sateliot on energy-efficient dual-mode IoT connectivity. The new hub represents a strategic expansion of these efforts, aiming to scale LMT’s technological footprint and retain specialized engineering and scientific talent within Latvia.
