A self-proclaimed white hat hacker exploited a software vulnerability in the Liquid Network, a Bitcoin sidechain, leading to a full service suspension. The attacker transferred 4,000 BTC from the network's reserves, which represented 95% of its total reserves.

Following the fix of the vulnerability, the attacker returned 3,400 BTC to the Liquid Network. The hacker currently retains 598.5 BTC, valued at approximately $47 million.

The returned amount constitutes approximately 85% of the stolen funds, while the attacker kept 15%. It remains unconfirmed whether this remaining amount is an officially agreed-upon bug bounty, as no public information supports a formal agreement between the network and the attacker.
