LexisNexis Risk Solutions has partnered with IMS to develop a smartphone-based driving behavior tracking technology. The solution integrates the Drive Metrics scoring model with the EdgeSDK, allowing for local processing of driving data directly on mobile devices.
Insurance companies can integrate this technology into their own applications or utilize the IMS platform to assess driving habits. The system tracks interactions such as screen swipes, taps, and phone calls, as well as the lock status of the device during accidents.
Insurers intend to use this data to verify compliance with policy terms and assist in claims assessment. However, the companies have not yet disclosed which insurance providers will adopt the technology or how the system distinguishes between drivers and passengers.
The technology aims to reduce costs by eliminating the need for additional hardware in vehicles. As these monitoring tools become more widespread, users will need to be aware of the data collection scope and its potential impact on insurance premiums.
