A cryptocurrency trader lost 80 Bitcoin, valued at approximately $6.6 million, following a single unauthorized transfer. The assets were stored on a new Ledger hardware wallet purchased from the reseller CryptoBilis. The transfer occurred on October 9 at 05:54 UTC, ten days after the funds were deposited into the device.

Following the incident, Ledger suspended sales by the Southeast Asian reseller while conducting an investigation. The company has advised recent customers to refrain from setting up their hardware wallets. Ledger has not yet confirmed whether the devices were physically tampered with during the supply chain process.

Blockchain analytics firms report that the total scale of the theft is significantly higher. Arkham estimates losses exceeding $80 million, while MistTrack suggests the figure could reach $90 million. Tether has begun freezing USDT assets associated with addresses linked to the incident to prevent further movement of funds.

This event follows other security incidents in the hardware wallet sector this year. In August, a firmware vulnerability in Coldcard devices resulted in the loss of approximately $70 million in Bitcoin. Ledger continues to monitor the situation and has committed to providing updates as the investigation proceeds.
