Ledger has introduced a new hardware device called Atom, designed to provide enhanced protection against tampering. The device integrates a cryptocurrency wallet with everyday applications, keeping Android apps separate from sensitive wallet operations. According to the company, the hardware includes features capable of detecting tampering even when the device is powered off.
The device is priced at $849 for those who reserve it, while the post-launch price is set at $899. Ledger expects to begin shipping the product in the summer of 2027. The device will also support post-quantum cryptography, encrypted messaging, and AI agent approvals.
The announcement follows a security incident involving malicious implants discovered in wallets sold by the authorized reseller CryptoBilis. In response, Ledger has requested that distributors in Hong Kong and Southeast Asia suspend sales. Additionally, the European retail chain MediaMarkt has removed Ledger wallets from its stores.
Ledger has implemented new protocols for authorized resellers, requiring that devices remain off display and be handed directly to customers at the time of purchase. The company also emphasized that returned devices must not be resold under any circumstances. A spokesperson stated that the development of Atom's security features was not a direct response to recent incidents.
