A study by DBS bank reveals that 88% of large corporations are currently testing or utilizing tokenized money for payments and liquidity management. The survey involved 422 financial executives from 11 countries, representing companies with annual revenues exceeding $500 million.
Among the participants, 24% have implemented tokenized money across their entire business, 43% use it in specific regions or units, and 21% are conducting pilot projects. Stablecoins are the most popular tool, cited by 63% of respondents, followed by tokenized bank deposits at 53% and tokenized money market funds at 52%.
Companies are adopting these tools amid shifts in international trade, with 78% diversifying their settlement currencies. However, firms face challenges such as regulatory uncertainty, cybersecurity risks, and integration difficulties. Consequently, 64% of respondents seek a single point of access from banks to various tokenized platforms.
In September, DBS and Citi completed a cross-border dollar payment using tokenized deposits via the Swift Digital Ledger infrastructure. The transaction was processed during a weekend and took only minutes, compared to the standard one to two business days required for traditional transfers.
