KuCoin has secured the ISO/IEC 42001:2023 certification, an international standard for artificial intelligence management systems. This framework requires organizations to establish and maintain policies governing their AI usage, including fraud detection and market surveillance.
The certification is part of KuCoin's Trust Project, a multi-year initiative launched in 2025 with a budget of $2 billion. The program aims to enhance security, compliance, and operational resilience across the platform.
According to TRM Labs, criminal adoption of AI in the crypto sector rose 40% over the past year. The AI-in-Crime Adoption Index reached 54 out of 100 in 2026, compared to 28 in 2024, with scams being the only category classified as mature.
TRM Labs reported 201 crypto hacks in the first half of 2026, more than double the figure from the previous year. Infrastructure compromises accounted for 75% of total losses, despite representing only 4% of incidents.
European AI regulations, such as the Digital Omnibus, have specific requirements for high-risk systems, though financial fraud detection is currently excluded from certain Annex III obligations. Voluntary certifications like ISO 42001 provide additional oversight frameworks.
