Kodiak AI has secured its first commercial agreement to supply 75 autonomous trucks to the freight company DTL Transport. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2028, marking a shift for Kodiak toward a driver-as-a-service model where clients own and operate the vehicles.

The partnership follows a successful pilot program in California, where Kodiak transported perishable goods for DTL over a 225-mile route. DTL plans to deploy these trucks on interstate routes, including Dallas to El Paso and the corridor between Dallas and Atlanta.

Kodiak currently operates under a trucking-as-a-service model with partners like Werner Enterprises and Roehl Transport. While the company provides technology for off-road operations to Atlas Energy Solutions, the DTL deal represents its first commercial contract for public highways.

Based on company projections of $150 000 to $190 000 in annual recurring revenue per truck, the DTL agreement could generate at least $11,2 million annually once the full fleet is delivered. Kodiak aims to transition away from owning its own fleet.
