Kioxia has unveiled an updated version of its GP series SSD, achieving over 20 million IOPS for 512-byte random reads. This performance is double that of the previous GP1 model, which reached approximately 10 million IOPS. The drive utilizes third-generation XL-Flash memory, designed to bridge the gap between traditional SSDs and DRAM.
The new hardware features PCIe 6.0 support and NVMe 2.2 protocol, enabling direct data access for GPUs. Technical improvements include shortened word and bit line routing to reduce latency and an increased number of independent memory planes per die. The drive offers a durability rating of up to 50 drive writes per day (DWPD).
Kioxia also introduced the LD4 model, a single-port SSD using QLC memory in an E1.L form factor. It utilizes four PCIe 5.0 lanes and 218-layer BiCS 8 flash memory. Available in 15.36 TB and 30.72 TB capacities, the design supports scaling up to 122.88 TB for hyperscale environments and complies with NVMe 2.0 and OCP 2.6 specifications.
