King Charles III hosted a private AI summit on September 17 at Dumfries House in Scotland. The event brought together approximately 30 participants, including industry executives, policymakers, and ethicists, to address the risks and governance of artificial intelligence.

Key attendees included Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, Google DeepMind co-founder Demis Hassabis, and OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar. The UK government was represented by AI Minister Kanishka Narayan. The discussions focused on safety guardrails, responsible development, and global economic impacts.

During the meeting, the monarch highlighted potential existential dangers associated with unchecked AI advancement. Jensen Huang advocated for rigorous safety testing before public product releases, emphasizing that companies should only deploy systems they can prove are safe.

The summit was supported by the Ditchley Foundation, King’s Trust, and the Sustainable Markets Initiative. The event aimed to build a shared framework for AI ethics rather than establishing binding international agreements, and no formal accords were signed.
