KB Securities, Securitize, and the Optimism Foundation signed a memorandum of understanding on September 21 to develop tokenized investment products. The collaboration focuses on serving institutional clients in South Korea, marking the first venture into tokenization for the brokerage firm.
The initial product range will feature money market funds and a fund based on KB Asset Management strategies. All settlements will occur on the OP Mainnet, an Ethereum-compatible Layer 2 network. KB Securities will manage issuance and distribution, while Securitize acts as the transfer agent and platform provider.
Future plans include tokenizing stocks, corporate bonds, and government debt, pending regulatory progress in South Korea. The country has been developing a framework for digital securities since 2023. Securitize, which recently went public via a SPAC merger, currently manages over $5 billion in tokenized assets.
The partnership highlights the growing adoption of the OP Stack in the Korean financial sector. In July, DB Securities also signed an agreement to explore security token offerings on the network. Additionally, the Hanwha Group holds approximately a 9.7% stake in Securitize, strengthening the corporate ties within the project.
