The Jurassic Finance project is currently raising $660 000 to acquire a Triceratops prorsus skull named Deaton. The initiative aims to tokenize the fossil into one million tradable TRCH1 tokens on the Solana blockchain, with each token priced at approximately $0.69.
As of Wednesday morning, the project had secured $406 667 in USDC contributions, reaching 61% of its target. The fundraising model operates on an all-or-nothing basis, meaning contributors will receive a full refund if the total goal is not met within the remaining 13-hour window.
The acquisition cost for the fossil is set at $600 000, while the remaining $60 000 is allocated to the project's treasury. Holders of the tokens will receive economic rights to the specimen through a special purpose vehicle, rather than direct ownership of the physical bone.
The fossil was excavated in 1999 from the Hell Creek Formation in North Dakota and is estimated to be 60% to 65% complete. Jurassic Finance intends to place the skull on a long-term loan to a museum to cover operational costs through display rights.
Anatoly Yakovenko, co-founder of Solana, publicly acknowledged the sale as the campaign entered its final hours. The project's success will serve as a test for investor appetite for real-world assets beyond traditional stocks and bonds on the Solana network.
