Jump Trading has recruited the founding team of the startup Itô to establish a specialized compute trading desk. The new unit will focus on trading access to AI inference capacity and computing power, treating these resources as commodities.
The desk will initially concentrate on mid-market contracts with durations ranging from 3 to 5 years. Transaction sizes in this sector typically fall between tens of millions and hundreds of millions of dollars, with some deals reaching the low hundreds of millions.
Data indicates that approximately 30% of these mid-market contracts require upfront cash payments from buyers before the delivery of compute resources. The Itô team previously developed a platform to help buyers secure AI compute supply.
The founders selected Jump Trading due to the firm's established credit standing, risk management infrastructure, and existing on-premises CPU and GPU capabilities. The team aims to create market structures to hedge risks within AI supply chains.
Founded in 1999 by Paul Gurinas and Bill DiSomma, Jump Trading has expanded into a global proprietary trading firm. The company reports a significant increase in trading volumes for contracts valued in the low hundreds of millions.
