Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated in an interview with CBS Sunday Morning that there is a 0% chance of artificial intelligence causing a global catastrophe by 2030. He dismissed recent warnings about existential risks as unfounded and suggested that those promoting such fears may have ulterior motives, such as political gain or seeking attention.
Huang's comments serve as a direct response to Evan Hubinger, a former lead at Anthropic, who previously estimated a greater than 10% probability of AI destroying humanity within the next decade. Hubinger had argued that the industry lacks a clear plan for solving the alignment problem for superintelligence.
The Nvidia executive also expressed opposition to new government regulations for the AI sector, arguing that developers are capable of managing the technology safely. He emphasized that while companies should accelerate development as quickly as possible, they must ensure that no products are shipped before they are ready or deemed safe.
