Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang publicly disagreed with calls to slow down the development of artificial intelligence. During a recent CBS Sunday Morning interview, he stated that the year 2030 will not mark the end of the world, countering recent industry concerns.
The debate intensified after Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei published an article on September 12 titled We Must Control the Frontier. In the piece, Amodei advocated for coordinated oversight and a decelerated pace for developing advanced AI models.
The proposal gained support from prominent industry figures, including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Elon Musk. This alignment between major competitors is considered unusual given the intense rivalry between their respective organizations.
Huang maintains that the industry does not require new laws or regulations to ensure AI safety. Speaking at a Salesforce event on September 15, he argued that safety and development speed are not mutually exclusive and that their conflict is a false dichotomy.
During the All-In Summit, Huang also noted that the discourse in China differs significantly from Western perspectives. He observed that there is no discussion of AI doomsday scenarios or catastrophic outcomes within the Chinese technology sector.
