Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, congratulated OpenAI on the launch of the Astra model. He stated that Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) has arrived, noting that OpenAI progressed from ChatGPT to o1 and then to Astra within four years.
OpenAI officially released Astra this Thursday, describing it as the world's most intelligent model aligned with human values. The company claims the model can handle the most challenging professional tasks with unparalleled speed, accuracy, and judgment.
Greg Brockman, President of OpenAI, echoed this sentiment during a conference call, welcoming the world to the AGI era. However, perspectives on the definition of AGI remain divided among industry leaders.
AI researcher Gary Marcus criticized Huang's claim, arguing it is premature and lacks scientific evidence or a clear definition. Marcus presented ten criteria for AGI, stating that Astra only meets one or two of them.
Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, has expressed a different view in a recent podcast, suggesting that AGI is a vaguely defined term and may even be an insignificant marketing buzzword.
