Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang publicly disagreed with Geoffrey Hinton regarding the potential risks of artificial intelligence. Hinton, a Turing Award winner and pioneer in neural networks, previously estimated a 10 to 20 percent probability that AI could cause societal collapse or threaten human survival.
Huang characterized these predictions as baseless and irresponsible, arguing that they lack scientific evidence. He expressed concern that such alarmist claims negatively impact public perception and create unnecessary panic among the younger generation, potentially discouraging them from pursuing higher education.
The Nvidia executive emphasized the need for a more rational and mature approach to discussing AI development. He urged experts to rely on objective data rather than speculative warnings, noting that spreading fear does not contribute to the betterment of society.
