Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has expressed support for the proposed 2026 Billionaire Tax Act in California. The initiative aims to impose a 5% wealth tax on state residents with a net worth exceeding $1 billion. Huang, whose net worth is estimated between $155 billion and $165 billion, could face a tax liability of approximately $8 billion, payable over five years.
The proposed tax targets roughly 200 billionaires in California and seeks to raise a total of $100 billion. These funds are intended for healthcare, education, and food assistance programs. The measure has received backing from political figures including Representative Ro Khanna and Senator Bernie Sanders.
To qualify for the November 2026 ballot, the initiative requires approximately 870,000 signatures. While other technology executives have opposed the proposal or considered relocating assets, Huang maintains that Silicon Valley provides a unique talent pool for Nvidia. The tax applies to individuals rather than corporate finances.
