The Jeep Recon EV, launched this summer with a starting price of $66,995, recently underwent a highway range test by Car and Driver. The electric SUV covered only 160 miles on a single charge during the evaluation, falling short of the EPA-estimated range of up to 222 miles.
Equipped with a 94 kWh battery, the vehicle demonstrated an efficiency of 1.7 miles per kWh. This result positions the Recon as one of the least efficient models tested by the publication, which has evaluated over 100 different electric vehicles to date.
In comparison, the Jeep Wagoneer S, which utilizes the same STLA Large platform and 94 kWh battery, achieved 280 miles in the same test. The Wagoneer S offers higher efficiency at approximately 3 miles per kWh, attributed to its aerodynamic design and lower ground clearance.
The Recon EV features a dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrain producing 670 horsepower. Designed for off-road use, the SUV includes 33-inch tires, 9.1 inches of ground clearance, and removable doors, rear quarter glass, and swing-gate glass.
