JD.com has introduced a new billing model for electric vehicle charging station cable installations, allowing customers to pay strictly for the length of cable used. The service features a 'zero-meter' starting point, meaning users only purchase the exact amount of cabling required for their specific parking space and meter distance.
Previously, the industry standard relied on fixed-length cable packages, typically sold in 10, 20, or 30-meter increments. This often forced consumers to pay for excess materials when the actual installation distance was shorter than the pre-packaged options. JD.com aims to eliminate this waste and provide transparent pricing.
The process begins with a professional site survey conducted by JD.com engineers after an order is placed. The final cost is calculated based on the actual wiring length measured on-site. This approach is designed to provide greater flexibility and budget predictability for EV owners.
JD.com has been developing its charging station installation business for several years and now maintains a service network covering most regions across China. The company reported that installation orders have nearly doubled, showing a year-on-year growth of nearly 100% during the first three weeks of its 11.11 shopping festival.
