JAXA has selected Japanese startup ArkEdge Space to lead two new projects focused on improving lunar navigation. These initiatives expand on the company's existing collaboration with the agency, which includes the development of a small satellite constellation designed to provide positioning and navigation services around the Moon.

Under the first contract, ArkEdge will study the integration of a Lunar Augmented Navigation Service receiver into the pressurized crew rover currently being developed by JAXA for the US-led Artemis program. This project aims to enhance mobility and orientation capabilities for future lunar surface missions.

The second project involves developing a receiver capable of detecting signals from Japan’s Lunar Navigation Satellite System, a demo satellite also built by ArkEdge. The system is designed to support interoperability by receiving signals from NASA and ESA satellites, ensuring a unified approach to lunar navigation infrastructure.
