Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has directed the development of a strategic plan to utilize blockchain technology as a mechanism to mitigate the impact of potential economic and banking sanctions. The initiative aims to prepare the national economy for scenarios where traditional financial channels might face restrictions.
While the specific details regarding the implementation, chosen networks, or digital assets remain undisclosed, Netanyahu confirmed that blockchain is being evaluated as a viable alternative for capital operations. The government is currently exploring how to integrate these technologies into the national financial framework.
Nir Hirschman, head of the Israel Crypto Companies Forum, noted that public blockchains offer inherent transparency, which allows for transaction tracking rather than serving as a tool for concealing funds. He suggested that digital assets could facilitate capital transfers and strengthen global financial connectivity.
The government's interest in digital assets follows recent regulatory developments in the country. In April, the Israel Capital Markets Authority issued its first license for a shekel-pegged stablecoin to the cryptocurrency exchange Bits of Gold.
