IonQ Inc., a publicly traded quantum computing company, has announced its intent to acquire cybersecurity firm Elisity Inc. The transaction is valued at $1.3 billion and will be settled entirely in stock. The deal includes $150 million in performance-based incentives tied to specific business milestones and is expected to close by the end of the year.
Elisity provides a software platform that maps corporate network devices and identifies security vulnerabilities, such as excessive access permissions. The system can automatically generate and test updated access policies. Elisity currently serves over 100 clients across the healthcare, financial services, and manufacturing sectors.
IonQ intends to integrate Elisity’s detection features with its own quantum security strategy. The company plans to develop capabilities for addressing quantum-related security risks, specifically targeting encryption algorithms vulnerable to potential large-scale quantum computers. This follows IonQ's acquisition of ID Quantique last year.
The combined entity aims to cross-sell products across their respective customer bases. IonQ also intends to leverage Elisity’s deployment experience to expand its presence in the public sector. CEO Niccolo de Masi stated that the acquisition is intended to create value for shareholders and enhance the company's enterprise security offerings.
